Last week the Chess teams played an enjoyable fixture in the English Chess Federation regional knockout stage against The Cotswold School; six great games resulted in a final score of 5 ½ wins to STRS and ½ to The Cotswold School and we progress to the next round of the ECT, which is due to be played before 3 March.

On Monday this week we took three teams to the West of England Team Chess Regional Qualifier event at Bristol Grammar School. Out of 20 teams our A Team (Sid, Tommy, Gabe and Finely) came second overall and have qualified for the national finals. Our B Team (Sai, Pavel, Muthukaruppan and Jay) came fifth overall and only just missed out by half a point on qualifying for the national finals. They were in first place until the last round, but lost against the eventual winners. Our C Team (Jem, Curtis, Samuel and Artur) were entered into the lower division and came fourth overall. Had they won one more game during the tournament they would have been outright winners in that division!
