The Tommy's Award

The Tommy’s Award recognises pupils’ commitment to all aspects of life at the School, helping them to become well-rounded young adults ready to take their place in the world. To achieve the Bronze Award in Year 7, pupils need to evidence how they have met the criteria in four key areas:

Curriculum

Pupils choose three of the five Curriculum Aims (Self Discipline, Thinking Skills, Resilience, Behaviours for Learning, and Core Knowledge and Understanding) and write a paragraph evidencing how they have demonstrated mastery of that skill.

Service and Commitment

Pupils complete each of the activities listed to demonstrate their leadership and connectedness to the School. For example, leading a presentation in tutor time or competing in at least two House events.

Extracurricular

Pupils complete each of the activities listed to demonstrate their active participation in trips and adventure, creativity, careers, clubs and societies. For example, taking part in Poetry by Heart or attending two non-sporting clubs.

Supercurricular

Pupils must complete each of the activities listed to demonstrate their commitment to supercurricular, whether it be subject specialist enrichment, academic reading or entering a competition.

Pupils are introduced to the portal we use to record their progress in tutor time, and are expected to complete their award independently throughout the year. Those who achieve the Bronze Award by the first half-term after Easter are presented with a certificate and an enamel pin badge in a special assembly at the end of the Summer Term. They can then progress to the Silver Award in Year 8, and the Gold Award by the end of Year 9.
