Year 11 prepared for their final English Literature Paper 1 exam in their final whole-cohort lesson, which focused on planning effectively for their Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde essay. They then watched a fantastic production performed by Quantum Theatre Productions, which proved a useful reminder of plot, characterisation, genre and key quotations from the text.
About the Quantum adaptation: The sober lawyer, Mr Utterson, is dismayed when his friend Dr Jekyll changes his will in favour of the unnerving and displeasing Mr Hyde, but he becomes more concerned when he hears from his cousin Mr Enfield that Mr Hyde has been involved in an unpleasant incident involving a child. Why would his dear friend Dr Jekyll countenance a friendship with such a man, let alone sign over access to his finances to him? As more dreadful events unfold Mr Utterson finally discovers the true horror behind the strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Taken from the original text, Michael Whitmore's new adaptation follows exactly the telling of this horror classic in this brand new show for schools.
