FameLab Academy

The final of the Rich’s FameLab Academy competition took place recently, with Year 9 students delivering some excellent STEM talks. Mrs Mee said: “The quality of the talks has improved over the years since we have been running the competition and the judges had a very difficult job of choosing a winner and two runners up!”
In the competition, students prepare three-minute presentations to explain a scientific topic in a dynamic and engaging way to a panel of judges. They are judged on content, clarity and charisma. The Rich’s judges were Mr Dempsey, Mrs May (a Trustee of the School) and Mr S Mills (STEM mentor, EDF energy). They took the longest they have in several years to come to a decision, however, in the end Oskar took first place for his talk on the anatomy of the human brain and Archie and Eshan were runners up. Oskar will take part in the Gloucestershire FameLab Academy Final on 21 March, run by the Cheltenham Science Festival, and will compete against finalists from other schools in the county.
Congratulations to all the students who took part, some fantastic talks were enjoyed by the Year 8 audience.
