The Girls’ Football Team returned to Chosen Hill on Wednesday and played their fourth and final match of the year, taking a decisive 7-1 victory. The team have shown amazing resilience, skill and growth over the last few fixtures and came into the match determined to build on their previous performances.

Match Report:

The Rich’s side started strongly, taking the game to their opponents immediately. There were early chances to open the scoring, but the Chosen Hill defenders were resolute. After 10 minutes of relentless attack, the breakthrough came. Good work from Dulcie D and Bea J on the wings caused a gap to open in the middle and Vice-Captain Holly S drove the ball home with a fine strike to open the scoring.

Our players gained momentum from the goal and increased the pressure even more. With the security of the immovable defence of Molly R, Jess O and Demi A in front of goalkeeper Jemima R, the forward players had the confidence to work the ball around the opposition. Before long, Captain Querene M released Bea on the right and she placed her shot in the bottom corner of the net. Our players were feeling ruthless and, soon after, Bea got her second of the match, following up good pressure and a shot from forward Eva D. Then, just before halftime, Querene deservedly got on the scoresheet, smashing home a loose ball from 10 yards. The score was 4-0 at halftime and a buoyant Rich’s team were keen to get back out there.

Substitutes Honor F, Orianna P, Isla W, Eleanor H and Eliza D entered the game and slotted into their positions seamlessly. The second half began and the pressure was maintained. A handball presented Rich’s with a free kick 20 yards out, and Querene scored directly from it to double her personal tally. Soon after, a penalty for another handball was given and Eva took responsibility and stepped up. The goalkeeper got a touch onto the post, but Eva was quick to react and slotted home the rebound.

Ten minutes from the end, an injury forced one of the opposing team off the field, but the Rich’s players showed fantastic generosity of spirit and the recently substituted Querene offered to play for Chosen Hill for the remainder of the game, allowing the match to continue. Querene immediately influenced the opponents’ play positively and shortly after, played a perfect through ball to a forward to score what would turn out to be a consolation goal for Chosen Hill. In the closing stages, the game was tighter, but just before the end, Bea managed to secure her hat trick to restore the six goal lead and STRS ran out winners. 7-1.

A superb performance by the whole team and an exceptional display of teamwork, sporting integrity, drive and skill resulting in a spectacular victory.
