National Poetry Day

National Poetry Day

Published Thursday 1 October 2020 by SJV

Today is National Poetry Day, and students have been hard at work writing and sharing their poems. The English Department invited each form tutor in Key Stage 3 and 4 to share favourite poems with their form classes this morning or later in the day during guided reading time, and to give the pupils some space to write their own poems and share with their peers.

9T are pictured here in Mr Margett’s English class this morning – given the theme of ‘food and horror’ by Mr Sowerby in tutor time at the start of the day, Oscar Slawinski, Luke Goody and Noah Leadley came up with Ye Olde Haunted Burger Shop and gave a spirited rendition to the class! 8R are also pictured hard at work on their poems in their period 2 English class. Well done all.

Mr Margetts recommends poems online here for younger years, and here for the older ones, or try browsing the Poetry Foundation for one of your favourites.

You can also check out a video clip of Ye Olde Haunted Burger Shop on our Instagram account now.
