Visit of Dr Mike Nicholson

On the evening of Monday, 24th June, Dr Mike Nicholson, Director of Undergraduate Admissions at the University of Oxford addressed an audience of Year 12 parents and students. He spoke with both expert knowledge and humour on the subject of university entry, including Oxbridge. He stressed the need for students to undertake careful research into their course choice and avail themselves of the Open Day opportunities which abound at this time of year. He explained, through a series of entertaining anecdotes, the importance of the toolkit of survival skills a successful undergraduate needs to cultivate; among these are basic cookery, using a launderette and budgeting.  When considering Oxbridge entry, Dr Nicholson exploded the myth that Oxbridge is only for independent school students or the rich. He also provided a fascinating insight into the interview process.
